Genre: Adult Drama
Amazon Rating: 4.6 stars

They say when you take revenge against another you lose a part of your innocence.
But I’m not innocent.
I haven’t been for a very long time.
My innocence was stolen from me. Taken was the life I was supposed to have. The soul I was born with. The ruby heart embedded in a life full of hopes and dreams.

I never even had a choice.
I mourn that life. Mourn the what-ifs.
Until now.
I’m ready to take back what was always meant to be mine.

But every plan has a fatal flaw. Sometimes it’s the heart.

I don’t even know where to start! This book was not what I was expecting. I am a shameless lover of smut, among other things and I thought that this was going to be just another smut fest. Oh was I wrong. It was a little rough for me personally to read (triggers) but it is so well written. The characters are well rounded and believable. You want to hate them for the terrible things they do and say but you just can’t. E.K. Blair weaves a complex tale without ever missing a beat and manages to give you just enough to keep you hanging on for the next page.

I hate giving detailed reviews because I don’t want to spoil any part of the story for another reader. I want you to go through, page by page and peel back the layers that create this compelling story. The emotions it evoked for me for unbelievable strong and I connected to the story throughout. The reader does not get to see the “big picture” until the end but then it falls into place so easily. I love a good book that shows the motivation (however twisted and misguided it may be) behind its characters.

There is no fluffy, feel good here. This is a dark, intense read and again, I caution, rife with triggers. I applaud EK Blair’s ability to tell us a dirty, crude story without it feeling forced. (no pun intended)

I give this book 4 stars and that is only because it is the first in a series. I reserve my 5 stars for a story I know in completion and once I have gotten through this series I will adjust my rating.

I am looking forward to Echo and Hush!
