Q: What is the current book you are promoting?
A: At the moment, I’m promoting the second book in my Nix Series, Notorious Nix. It’s a sequel to the first book and, like the first, depicts demonic possession from the demon’s point of view—so it’s supernatural horror with a side of dark comedy, if you have a twisted sense of humour like I do. My main character Nix, the demon, finds herself an unwilling captive of some demon hunters and has to help them escape from their pursuers.
Q: Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
A: As you might expect, my favorite character in my book is the main character Nix, the demon. The book is written from her point of view, so it’s dark but also snarky and unreserved. It was both extremely fun and challenging to write from that point of view for me. In the second book, she gets a lot more depth and backstory than in the first, so that was exciting to explore.
Q: Who is your least favorite character and why?
A: My least favorite character is probably Rachel, the young hunter that Nix spends much of her time possessing. She is meant to stand in contrast to Nix in many ways, so a lot of her qualities are opposing and unlikable—she’s a weak character at first, especially in the first book, and because Nix dislikes her so much it’s hard for me to like her. She does develop and come into her own over the course of the series, developing in likability along the way.
Q: What is your next project?
A: Right now I’m working on the next book in the series, titled Insatiable Nix. This book follows the events of Book 2, which left off on a bit of a cliffhanger. The third book should be a ton of fun! So far there’s a crazy cat lady, a mad-hatter-esque tea party, and far too much cannibalism.
Q: If you could never write again, what would you do?
A: My day job is copy and content editing, so even if I could never write again myself I have tremendous passion for editing and for helping other writers develop their craft.
Q: Tell us something unique about you.
A: I’m left-handed.
Q: What is your favorite word?
A: Serendipity. It has a nice rhythm to it.
